    Monthly Poetry Challenge :: Enjambment

Write a poem of at least ten lines, whose lines are all enjambed (except for the last line). Enjambment is a poetic device in which one line, sentence, or phrase runs into the next without end-stopping or the use of terminal punctuation.
For example T.S. Elliot's The Wasteland, where 5 of the 7 lines are enjambed:

April is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
    Memory and desire, stirring
    Dull roots with spring rain.
    Winter kept us warm, covering
    Earth in forgetful snow, feeding
A little life with dried tubers."
As usual, feel free to post your finished work in the main forum for feedback.

Re: Monthly Poetry Challenge :: Enjambment

    On the afternoon when
the clouds came I hudled under your calm
    before the storm
    to smell the rain
    running down your brow
furled like the edges of umbrellas
    ( your heartland was trembling
    more than the air
    and old dogs
    from thunder)

    and I don't know how
    I expected to puddle jump
    unprepared
    by yours muddy brown,smiling
    a deluge of laugh lines
but the shelter of your limbs
    said your lips looked
    like the best port
    (i remember how
    our jawbones creaked like
    the floor boards
in old houses in Oklahoma as the sky
beat the dust from our shoulders)

    It was peaceful and terrible
    the sound of your love
calm like storm shelters with ears
    in the dirt listening
for the sound of it ripping
    every nail from my
    solitude

    @Mantra this is a milestone

i watched as the flowers, grew
to know you like the dirt they call, home
is the smell of falling, forests
were crippled in the coffins they built
    waiting for, you
never saw the nails falling until
    the decomposed around you
    and turned into the, dirt
rained across your forehead like, lead
    balloons lifted in reverse
for the celebration we didn't have

    just flowers and a, rock
    marked one single spot
to represent everything you'd ever done.

I let a spliff burn off my lip, mist
diminishing my view as I, slipped
past that ash holding me a death, wish
    I had a hold over that rope,hanging
like a branch with no leaves, starving
    while I'm carving murals on,you
startled at the sound of me,breathing
a symphony of notes as I'm, falling
    backwards to where it all,began
    at the point of singularity

    Cross fading an atom revolving,around
me is a circle of secrets and a,star
    of david illuminating my thoughts.

between rock and hard place: hearts ache
    from chiseled little jags
    shaping clay in
to that you'd wish to have. perfect
    the image, breast
and instress, from neck to instep
you project its interests (perfect when finished). press
the index digit against its physics
where you feel the pulse drum
false. hum, sweet nothings in the ear.

    Arrow is (we are)

love is everything, a whisper-- she loves
as whispers meet... a sudden distance
of emptied forests, sing. in between. you
and me, lower voice, still (hushed)
    forgetting all as Monday morning
flushed an open void. swill, cup
solo read. a bad reminder, rushed
    hungover stress, as absent-minded
as brainless Starbucks quotes with no
    beginning and no end. tomorrow
never must restart- as harsh as when the winter
warrants getting thinner. one of these does not belong
    love, is everything- a whisper.

Staring blankly at my screen, trying to recreate
the feelings I had oh so long ago, where words
flowed freely onto paper before being copied
onto the screen. posted. Queue the applause as
letters become words become a thought thrown
down for all to see. This whirlwind of emotions
is a dizzying effect of the mind. Trapping myself
in a world which I no longer feel comfortable or even
recognize anymore. Keys clang while my fingers pound
down on unsuspecting symbols. I remember
pen on paper, what a romantic idea.

    His razor claws tore through
the victimized lamb as it slowly
bled and cried all over the field
of dreams that had been flooded
by the God of Old Testaments.
The lion finished his meal and
and left the crime scene in an
    aggravated fashion as the vultures
    swiftly picked apart the caution
tape and picked at the the lambs remains.
