    Weekly Challenge Winners

    Week 1: TheIllyricist

    Miss Passion
    Rested upon that winter throne
Sits the darkest queen I harbor
Take her flames as my own
To try and break blackest armor.
    Lustful love liquefied, a
    Cup full of sinner’s fire
    To take an everlasting sip
    Of the burning venom
    Wrap its searing coils
    From throat to heart
    Curtained mind blinded eyes
    But pulsing passion bleeds
    That stained crimson kiss
    From dark mistress lips
And over time she will remain at last
Or ever always fade in tears of ash.

    Explanation
Emily and I both agreed on the winner. We chose this winner
based on fluidity and the abstract level that made this more
interesting. It held a lot of weight; story wise and the imagery
displayed was extremely vivid and really helped enhance the
piece. While maintaining simplicity, Ill was able to layer his work
    without sacrificing quality.

the theory of cause and effect is flawed,
we expect the outcome to mirror the struggle, that's wrong.

    Week 2: TheIllyricist

    Mindedness
His thoughts trickle down the glassy surface
Light beam expressions from the bulb
Outside the box because that's what they told him to, do
As they say but how can he forget about how they act

    Multiple minds minding his mind
    Mother, father, brothers, sisters,
Friends and authors all have wisdom to give
Yet he wonders "Which mind is mine?"

Box the outside inside the box
Question, will the words on the page
Ever be his own or is his spoken stream
    Seamed from pre-existent threads.

    Explanation
To be fair, I wasn't keen on picking the same person two times in a row
but Ill's abstract style really grabbed both mine and Emily's attention.
The point of this competition is to break from the norm and really
layer a piece together that exemplifies the topic, while maintaining a
cohesive story. And that's what Ill had that no other piece had.

    Runner Up: Mr. Hardy

    Week 3: Goliath

Ricky was a gangster in South Boston, ripped off the wrong guy and found problems,
underground options weren't working and he kept burning bridges without conscious.
The goodfellas doubt Ricky's hustle, and knock down his door with fifty knuckles,
it becomes a tricky shuffle, Ricky's jumping out the back window into filthy rubble.
Ricky's limping down the alleyway, ankle badly sprained, fighting to reach his escape,
breathing changed as he's feeling an increase in pain, trying not to overheat in the rain.
Ricky found an abandoned house, a place to lay low while his injuries heal,
ribs tenderly sealed in between buckshot and internal bleeding, his misery's real.
Ricky wakes up the next morning to a cup of water and a man dressed in black,
flicking cigarette ash, with a pistol in his hand and a bottle of pills next to the glass.
Stressed and brash, Ricky begins to panic, he's unprepared for judgement day,
the man brushes his legs, asks Ricky how he wants it, overdose or slug to his face?
Staring at his blood stains, Ricky begins to cry wishing he could turn back time,
his words tied to his tongue, the sight of the gun slides into the corner of his black eye.

Ricky wipes away his tears then looks at the glass of water and takes a breath,
he made a mess... now he pays the debt with two bullets through his brain and chest.

    Week 4: Enoch Light

Often forced to wait patience has been a course of fate
Contortioned state, bending hate around remorse’s stake
This portions blank, never made a space to call a home
Or saved a tear to fall, I crawled those places all alone
Complacent moans, shadows run adjacent to this ship
The makeshift sea dweller crying lakes to sway amidst
From every day I lift these oars to brave a storm of bliss
To every former kiss that landed dormant at these lips
The Morning mists or winds that brush the fabric at my hips
To the sun that lifts across the Ocean’s stagnant drift
A tragic shift, my life has capsized before your eyes
Baptized in your beliefs, surmised, and casted out to die
So many pouts of ‘why?’ I build this brittle tree of shame
Nailed the boards with every tooth I broke to stay the same
Sailed the open plain of water just to meet you there
Only greeted my lonely, only me, the only person here

    Guess I’ll wait longer

    Week 5: KnowP

Look, I'm a torn book. I hate it.
Full of content and pages of amazement
Glazed with insane lines defined with ungraded phrases
May feel degraded or inflated, perceptions options
Blessed with topics topped with filler for the subconscious
Consciously confusing the truths, we see as obnoxious
The foot of a loch ness, the tail of the whale
Fact or fiction, you’ll be left on a boat in a forest going through hell
Every chapter is laughter where decisions are tested
at the end of the lesson, a shambled life is what you’re left with
Realizing we’re destined for greatness, scrolls of souls
after much fight in plight, we’re merely a face on a totem poll
From old to mold, we’re a character in the scheme of the things
Nightmares leaving us in silence should be the reason we scream for dreams
Creative teams of authors and a thought forces brains to come alive
If books are where you hide the truth, everything else must be built on lies…

(sorry this took so long, we picked a winner a while ago and I forgot to update this)

    Week 6: KnowP

standing toe to toe to what I believe is me
or at least use to be before the scrutiny
the failures and disappointments, the abortion
the termination, tax inflations, the divorces
parents dead corpses, life's a bunch of horse shit
we crawl around in, God this is odd and morbid
or is this the norm and fate for the race
in a mirror reflecting an unknown face
come home, stay, be responsible and driven
you wont learn to receive until all you have is given
one day you'll arise to every bad decision
and realize life is a choice, being blind is a vision
the tide isn't crimson, it doesn't have a pigment
our eyes are compromised, even the sky is different
fact or fiction, i wanna be alive once again
will I ever get the picture, or live life outside of the frame

    Week 8: 143

It was poetry before anyone could hold a pen
Every blow being a count against time for it to suspend
The glancing wind shaving minutes, braving ignorance
Reshaping infidels impotance to wither inference
Who would know that a controversial view was accepted
Collected supporters rejoicing when he turned conqueror
Proof that education doesn't transfer wisdom into dialect
Yet the words had abilities to pull deafness from wanderers
His stance grew shades from infantile smiles and cries
Miles of unwanted flies turning into savaging killer bees
Willing being on the forefront, rebuking filed lies....
Reclaiming the moniker when opportunist fuel distilleries
Hand of angels, tactics of a post modern revolution
Showing his greatest greatness in lauded devolution
Now butterflies speak softly, praising his story
With the chanting of BUMAYE raised in glory......
